Big hit at golf club

Comrie GC visit by star Gerard

He may be a hit at the box office but when it comes to hitting a golf ball, A-list celebrity Gerard Butler is not quite on his A-game.

That’s according to the lady members at Comrie Golf Club who were amused to see some of the tee shots of the Holywood heart-throb end up out of bounds rather than on the greens.

Gerard was spending time with family in Comrie recently to celebrate his forthcoming 50th birthday and took to the Shaky Village fairways to relax.

The club’s Gitte Bushby told the Herald:

“Last Wednesday we came up to play our nine holes, as we normally do at one o’clock.

“Gerard’s mum Margaret turned up with Gerard and they were playing right after us.

“He hasn’t played for two years. His drives were fantastic - long, very long - but all over the shop - in the bushes here and in the bushes there.

“Suddenly we would hear this yell of ‘fore’ and his ball would land right in front of us – he had just arrived and was jet-lagged.

“Afterwards, we sat in the club house and had coffee with him. He went right through our biscuit tin, gobbling them all up so we said ‘come on Gerard you’ll have to pay for this by having a photo session with us!’”

The star of recent blockbuster Angel has Fallen was happy to oblige.

Gitte added: “We would like to thank A-list celebrity, Gerard Butler, for visiting and playing golf in Comrie and for getting some lady members’ hearts beating faster!

“Comrie Golf Club would also like to congratulate St Fillans Golf Club on being awarded the best 9-hole course title at the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards.

“How fortunate we are to live in beautiful Strathearn.”
