Mountain trek was a tough test

-

“I had been really worried about the group atmosphere during the climb, but the whole team dynamic was fantastic.

“Within the second day of the climb, there was a moment where we were all sat outside our tents in a massive circle - that was a really special moment.”

The group faced a number of challenges along the way, notably from the freezing temperatures and suffering from altitude sickness.

Jamie continued: “The hardest thing varied from person to person. On the last day I had awful altitude sickness and a lack of sleep was an issue as well.

“We started off at around midnight, having gone to bed at 10.30pm the night before.

“It was - 10C degrees outside so it was pretty cold and your water can freeze at those temperatures.

“We had to climb about 5200 metres which was a bit of a slog and I just started to crumble. I was being sick every few hundred metres.

“I was so glad to have my brother there with me, he stuck with me and kept me going. I would not have made it to the top without him.”

He added: “It was a great feeling to get to the top, but I don’t remember much of it, I was delirious.

“The proudest moment was not reaching the top, it was all the little bits in between like chatting to all the people in the group and feeling part of the team.

“Reaching the top was very special, but it was all the little bits - I will always remember them.

“Watching the others get to the top and what they had to go through was pretty inspiring as well.

“One girl had terrible altitude sickness and she got up every day looking like she was going to burst into tears.

“But every day she got up and went for it again. She had the hardest time getting to the top, but did the best out of all of us.

“I am very happy with how I did and everyone else was pretty happy too.

“They all said it was the best thing they had ever done.”
