Award win for Monzie B&B

-

The Millhouse B&B, in Monzie, has been named Scotland’s best B&B at the Scottish Outdoor and Leisure Awards.

Known as‘SOLA’, the awards were made during a gala dinner in Glasgow on November 2.

David and Alexandra Crichton, who manage Monzie Estate, opened The Millhouse B&B in June this year.

The B&B accommodation in Monzie was recognised by SOLA for its emphasis on sustainability and supporting local economies.

One of the key focuses that David and Alexandra are very proud of is sustainability, with clean energy for the business from the hydro electric station next door.

They have tried to support local food producers and chose traditional craftsmanship and upcycling in their interior design.

The re-modelled building was originally a sawmill and many of the interior fittings and the kitchen were bespoke manufactured by Monzie Joinery, which also made integrated desks and wardrobes, and bedside cabinets.

Alexandra designed the headboards, light shades and cushion covers.

“Thanks to Britishmade wool duvets and lovely beds constructed in Glasgow, guests often comment they have had the best night’s sleep in years,”she said.

This summer the B&B housed a pop-up cafe, where homemade cakes and jams proved particularly popular.

David and Alexandra note that their success is only possible with the continued support of a wonderful team who help to run the four selfcatering cottages as well.
