Collecting Crieff war artefacts
Those involved with a group on the lookout for wartime memorabilia are hosting a special event on Thursday this week.
Perth and Kinross Remembers is staging its ‘First World War collecting day’ from 2- 6pm at Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff.
The group is a 12- month legacy project funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, with partnership funding sourced from Friends of Perth and Kinross Archive, the Jimmie Cairncross Charitable Trust and Perth Common Good Fund.
It is gathering information from all the memorial projects undertaken in the region during the recent First World
War centenary period so that wideranging research on local soldiers, war memorials and communities is preserved for future generations.
Thursday’s event has been billed as a chance for people to share their collections and, if they wish, deposit them in the Perth and Kinross First World War Legacy Collection – to be kept in the Perth and Kinross Archive.
Contributors are encouraged to bring along diaries, letters and photographs from the First World War.
The project team is also interested in research and material related to memorial events, and staff will be at the event to digitise material and answer questions about the project.
There will also be a family history workshop at the library.
Those in attendance will also benefit from the support of experienced researchers.
Perth and Kinross Remembers project officer, Fiona Hall, said: “The collecting day is a great opportunity for people and families to bring items along that will become part of a legacy collection and help future generations of researchers and local communities remember the First World War.
“As we move further away from the First World War, it is even more important to remember and acknowledge the impact it had on the people of Perth and Kinross.”
