Further jail time added to sentence
A 33 year-old man, jailed for almost 16 months after breaking into a pensioner’s house – and then falling asleep – has had another four months added to that sentence.
Thomas McMahon, of Croft Avenue, Dunning, flouted a bail curfew order by nipping out of his house to get cigarettes.
He also stole almost £150-worth of items from a Perth store – and was then caught with heroin.
The bail order had been imposed on August 6, restricting him to his home from 7pm-7am, but he was not there when police carried out a curfew check.
Depute fiscal Robbie Brown said he was seen leaving his home just after midnight and police were alerted.
Police arrived about 12.50am – and witnessed him returning from Perth by taxi.
When cautioned and charged, he replied:“I was just away to get fags.”
McMahon also admitted helping himself to a hoover, a quantity of fragrances and household items from B&M, in the St Catherine’s Retail Park in Perth, on April 10, 2019.
The same day, he had the class A drug in his possession in the city’s Scott Street.
Mr Brown said the items were valued at £138 and only £22-worth was recovered.
The shoplifting incident was caught on CCTV and the heroin was recovered when he was arrested and searched.
Sheriff Keith O’Mahony ordered the four-month prison sentence to run consecutive to his present jail term.
That was imposed after McMahon broke into a house in Dundee after fleeing from Perth when police warned him his life was in danger.
But he fell asleep in the property – only to be confronted by the 65 year-old home owner in the morning.
The pensioner shouted at him to leave but the intruder brazenly began to steal over £150 in cash, bank and credit cards,
