Gunn’s delight at first strike for club

Strathearn Grove recorded a resounding 9- 1 home win over Scone Thistle on Saturday.

The Division Two sides met at Crieff ’s Strathearn Community Campus and Grove went into the tie looking to restore some pride after being on the end of a 5-0 defeat the last time the teams met.

The confident hosts controlled the game from start to finish and forged ahead when a shot by Paddy Ward was flicked in by the heel of defender Martin McGougan.

The strike was the stopper’s second goal in two games.

Josh Roberts put his side 2-0 up with a looping header before Scone pulled one back after a mix-up in midfield.

Grove made it three when Lee Roberts just managed to get on the end of a through ball to squeeze an effort in off the post.

Josh Roberts added his second of the game after the interval with a low finish into the corner.

Despite the one-sided nature of the scoreline, Grove keeper Dave McKay was busy from time to time and produced some good saves.

It was 5- 1 when an effort from about 30 yards with Jordan Crerar’s left foot gave the keeper no chance.

Ross Gunn was next to get in on the act and scored his first goal for the club with a header from a corner.

Josh Roberts then completed his hat-trick following a well-worked move down the left flank.

The Thistle keeper kept the scoreline down with some fine saves of his own but he couldn’t stop Crerar grabbing his second of the game.

And the scoring reached its conclusion when Josh Roberts headed home a Connor Stewart flick-on to net his twelfth goal in four games

After the match, Grove coach Callum Ross said: “After a slow start to the season, we look more confident going into games and that showed.

“I felt we controlled the game.” Up next for Grove is a home Ashleigh Cup tie against Burrelton Rovers.

Kick-off on Saturday is at 1.30pm.
