Officer hails drugs crackdown

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

Drugs estimated to be worth nearly £200,000 were seized in two separate Strath incidents in the space of a few days.

Police are continuing to investigate a drugs bust in Crieff which uncovered more than £40,000-worth of cannabis.

Officers searched an unoccupied property in the town’s East High Street on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 22.

A spokesperson for the nationwide force said the “substantial” cultivation of the substance was discovered as a result.

The spokesperson added:

“Investigations are continuing to trace those responsible.”

And on Monday, January 27, cannabis worth around £ 140,000 was seized by officers following a road traffic accident on the A9 near Auchterarder.

A 28 year-old male and a 27 year-old female were subsequently arrested and charged with being concerned in the unlawful supply of a controlled drug.

CI Ian Scott, area commander for Perth and Kinross, said his officers would not tolerate drugs in the region.

He said: “Police Scotland continues to work with communities and partners to identify those involved in the supply of controlled drugs to reduce the damage they cause to individuals and families.

“Operation Slate is the D Division ( Tayside) initiative to gather intelligence relating to drugs supply and carry out enforcement activity to bring those responsible to before the courts.”

CI Scott had previously warned of the dangers posed by so- called ‘county lines’ drugs gangs from England infiltrating Perth and Kinross communities.

Anyone with information on drugs crime is asked to contact Police Scotland on the non- emergency number, 101 – or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
