What action to take if you feel unwell
Anyone who thinks they may have COVID-19 or could have come into contact with the potentially deadly virus that is rapidly finding its way round the globe should not visit the doctor or pharmacist.
Instead they should phone their GP or call NHS 24 on 111.
That’s the advice from local surgeries.
Crieff Medical Centre has also posted extra information on its website about the coronavirus, which causes COVID-19.
It states:“The symptoms of coronavirus are a cough, a high temperature and shortness of breath.
“The symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, such as cold and flu and it does not necessarily mean you have the illness.
“NHS 24 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need medical help and advise you what to do.
“Use this service if you think you might have coronavirus; you’ve recently been to a country or area with a high risk of coronavirus or you’ve been in close contact with someone with coronavirus.
“Alternatively call NHS 24 on 111. Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital. In Scotland call your GP or NHS 24 on 111 out of hours.”
Perthshire South and Kinrossshire MSP Roseanna Cunningham urged constituents to follow the advice being issued by health providers.
She said:“The Scottish Government’s chief medical officer had advised last week that it was highly likely that we would see a positive case in Scotland. That has now come to pass and I wish that individual a speedy recovery.
“I know that the fact that the person who has been diagnosed is resident in Tayside will make this outbreak feel very much closer to home for my own constituents but there is no need for panic about this disease.
“It is, however, important to be aware of the steps that can and should be taken to prevent further spread and to protect vulnerable people from infection.
“Members of the public have a vital role to play in helping contain any outbreak by following the latest health and travel advice, and by following basic hygiene precautions, such as washing your hands well and covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing - things we should all be doing anyway!
“If you have returned from any of the areas of the world where the virus is particularly prevalent, or have been in contact with someone who has, and are experiencing symptoms, contact your GP, NHS 24 or the helpline - but do so by phone, do not go in to the surgery.”
