Climate action
A new group passionate about the environmental has formed in the Strath.
Climate Action Strathearn is inviting other like- minded people to come on board and help them focus on climate and environmental issues locally.
Jodie Bell from Comrie is one of the founders.
The young mum was pleased with the turnout at the inaugural meeting of the group, held recently in Crieff.
She told the Herald: “A lot of us were really disheartened by the recent elections in Westminster and the attitudes of people towards the current climate crisis, particularly during the youth strikes.
“We have all come to the conclusion that if we want to invoke change, we have to do something ourselves. Starting a local climate group seemed a good start.
“We are supporting many other brilliant groups in the area but we want to take a softer approach and use our passion as a learning experience for others to really get the best advice and support in understanding the issues we face, such as with single use plastics, energy alternatives, our waste and recycling facilities, to name just a few.”
And the group is planning to be proactive in the community.
Jodie continued: “We’re looking to get answers from the people in the know through holding popup cafes, getting involved in tree planting and going into schools with help and support for change.
“We are currently setting up a website which will include loads of details such as where to get great local ethical produce, a space to chat and learn, when we are planning pop up cafes etc, and also a link to Extinction Rebellion and other groups.
“We do want to protest for important issues and we want to do it as a group of like minded people. If anyone is interested in joining, any age, please get in touch. We’re open, looking for enthusiasm for ideas and support, in whatever way that might be.”
The group can be contacted via its new Facebook page.
