Talented band members impress at comp
Members of Brass Central Strathearn were in action at the Scottish Championship at the weekend.
The two-day event, organised and run by the Scottish Brass Band Association (SBBA) in its 125th year, was held over March 7 and 8 in Perth Concert Hall.
Talented members of the locally-based band were making their debut at the competition and left happy with the comments received by adjudicator Gareth Bowman.
Gareth is a music teacher and regular tutor with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland, which holds courses at Strathallan School near Bridge of Earn during the Easter and summer holidays.
Brass Central Strathearn band manager Jim Wishart said: “This was the first time since the band was formed in 2012 that they performed at the event and they all enjoyed their day on stage.
“Gareth’s first comment was ‘well done’ to Shona Douglas on the euphonium, then he went on to praise Lucy Douglas for her solo cornet performance and Myles Lindgren for his efforts on solo trombone.
“He also made positive comments on most of the other sections of the band.
“Gareth will also visit the band at one of our rehearsals over the next year.”
Brass Central Strathearn’s development band’s rehearsals take place from 6pm on Thursdays at Ardvreck School in Crieff.
Sessions for the senior band take place from 7pm on the same day in the same location.
Jim continued: “Anyone who can play or wishes to learn can come along and give it a try.
“We want to keep the band going for 125 years if we can!”
