Academy says it has virus contingency plans
Morrison’s Academy has said it has been closely monitoring the everevolving coronavirus situation since midFebruary and has contingency plans in place for pupils should schools be closed.
Michelle Gardi McGregor, head of external relations at the independent school, told the Herald:“We were particularly conscious of adhering to the advice from the UK Government and the NHS regarding coronavirus containment after the return of our pupil ski trip to Northern Italy.
“We are happy to report that none of our party was affected.
“This has not, however, led to complacency.
“We are actively mitigating risks and preparing business continuity plans to help manage any potential changes in the government’s stance.”
Ms Gardi McGregor said the cancellation of sporting events and fixtures has been carried out to reduce social contact and pupils have been given advice on good hand-washing procedures.
Sanitising is occurring where communal items such as laptops and tablets are used and hand sanitisers and wipes have been made available to pupils and staff.
She continued: “Although the Scottish Government has indicated that there are no immediate plans to close schools we are, of course, preparing for this.”
In the event of closure, Morrison’s has remote learning capability in place and pupils will continue their studies from home and will be supported by teachers.
And parents and pupils will be kept up to date on any changes regarding SQA exam arrangements.
Ms Gardi McGregor added:“This is naturally an anxious time for our pupils.
“To date the SQA’s position has been to continue exam preparation.
“We are maintaining our communications with the SQA. Our focus is to continue delivering a high quality education, preparing pupils for exams and completing coursework requirements.
“This is a challenging time for all and to that end we are continually evaluating how best to provide pastoral support to our pupils to alleviate the anxiety they may feel in these unprecedented times.
“Morrison’s Academy is a strong community. Whilst we all face disruption to our daily lives we are confident that, as a school, we will work together and rise to the challenges presented in the coming weeks.”
