Young sports person of year award for Charlie
Cross Country Series, while he came 18th in the Enduro World Series in Zermatt, Switzerland.
Then, in August, came the big one as Charlie was crowned the junior men’s cross- country mountain bike world champion in Mont-Saint-Anne, Canada.
It marked the first gold medal and rainbow jersey to be won by a British male in the cross-country discipline.
His journey to the top has been aided by having access to the rolling hills of Strathearn, and elsewhere in Perthshire, in recent years.
“The area is pretty much perfect for me as there are loads of nice hills and roads to be out on when I’m training,” Charlie said.
“I know pretty much every road between Callander and Perth and all the good hills for intervals, so it is ideal here.
“It is always nice to come back home to familiar trails and especially after being away abroad racing.
“There is a great cycling community here. I got into the sport by joining Strathearn Mountain Biking Club. There is something for everyone who is interested in cycling.”
Charlie’s new Perth and Kinross young male sports person award is the latest in a growing list of accolades picked up across the past few months.
These included being presented with the young sports personality of the year trophy at the Sunday Mail Scottish Sports Awards.
“It’s so nice to see people recognising the sport and my cycling achievements recently,” Charlie concluded.

“The lottery will restart with a prize figure of £200.”
