John aiming to hit right note for volunteers
A former vet is set to perform pop tunes on his flute in a bid to raise money for a group set up to lessen the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
John Boyd plans to raise money for the Auchterarder Covid-19 Community Support Group during an afternoon of live music, which is to get under way from 2pm on June 6.
He stressed the afternoon is not a public event but he is hoping it will give those wishing to help the cause a way of donating.
John explained: “I will be performing alone in a park in the middle of Grampian Avenue, playing songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s on my flute.
“I have requested that this is not a public event because of current government restrictions, but I am seeking donations from friends and neighbours for this wonderful support group who are doing so much for everyone.”
Auchterarder Covid 19 Community Support is co- ordinating help, advice and volunteers in the Auchterarder, Aberuthven, Blackford and Dunning area.
Former veterinary surgeon John came to live in the Lang Toon when he retired 16 years ago and is involved in a number of local organisations.
He continued: “I felt the local community would like the opportunity to thank the support group in this way.
“Alone in the park, I will play pop tunes for 40- 45 minutes, while a few local residents can listen from the comfort of their gardens, which back onto this park.
“Music makes everyone feel good, lifts our spirits – and we need something to make us feel better at this time.”
John is hoping that those who cannot listen due to social distancing restrictions will still offer financial support for the community group.
He added: “We all care about those less fortunate than ourselves, especially at this difficult time, and if you are wondering how you can help this platform makes it easy for you to donate from the comfort of your own home.”
