Murray-backed event was so inspiring for children

Kids loved getting back into their sport thanks to tennis heroes

in time for the finals on Sunday afternoon.

Encouraged and supported by video messages from both Andy and Jamie Murray, the winners of the three groups – Rhuri Blair, Jack Harvey and Murray Gibb – had a three- way play off to determine who would come out on top.

There were some close and exciting matches with everyone winning one match and so the overall winner had to be decided by who won the most games and, aptly, it was Murray who won.

All three boys were delighted with their prizes supplied by the Murray brothers’ sponsors, Castore, Playbrave and Head.

Judy Murray said: “The players really entered into the spirit of the Scrap of the Scots.

“We didn’t let the Scottish weather beat us and they all competed well and learned loads.

“Jamie and Andy were delighted they could support the event from London. It’s so important that we create fun competitiv­e opportunit­ies that mirror what they see on TV.”

And Adam Brown, head coach of the academy which bears his name, added: “This was a brilliant event for some local youngsters.

“They have missed competing over the last few months and couldn’t wait to get back on court.

“This event has truly inspired them and has shown them how they can still compete and importantl­y stay safe!

“A big thank you should go to Judy for all she has done to support the event.”

On e o f t h e p a rent s commented: “It was a fabulous event which was so inspiring for all the kids.

“Thank you to Judy and Adam for creating this local opportunit­y for the players to get back to competitiv­e play in a safe environmen­t.

“They’ve had so much fun and been inspired by the connection to the top players in Battle of the Brits.”
