Salons have their work cut out

Hairdressers can’t wait to get started on customers

-

Those concerned about the state of their lockdown locks were pleased to see local salons opening up again on Wednesday this week.

However, a trip to the barber or hairdresser won’t be quite the same as before with extensive safety measures now in force – including the retention of customer details for four weeks for Test and Protect purposes.

The staff of CoCo Belle in Crieff were looking forward to seeing their clients again.

Owner Kimberly Abernethy told the Herald that hairdressers are ready to get back to doing what they love. She said: “In case you can’t tell from under our masks, we are super excited to welcome all of our clients back into the salon after such a long time.

“It has been a challenge arranging appointments around all of the restrictions that we have had to put in place but clients have been more than understanding and just seem excited to have a hair appointment, which we are so grateful for.

“The ‘new normal’ for us sees only three out of six stylists working per day at separate sides of the salon with only one client in per person to comply with social distancing regulations.

“We have allowed space in between clients to clean down work stations and tools before the next client arrives.

“We have protective screens at the desk and between the wash basins for clients’ safety.

“We are providing clients with disposable PPE on arrival to the salon and have allowed extra time between appointments to avoid overcrowding.”

Kimberly added: “Wearing PPE while working is challenging but worth it to keep everyone safe as we all adjust to this new way of life.”
