‘Dirty attack’ anger to be aired at forum

Councillor’s action call after St Fillans disruption

-

But Cllr McCall has stressed that she will use the forum to bring up the problems that St Fillans residents are having to endure.

She told the Herald: “These are all issues being faced around the park and based on the agenda there is no reason why I can’t bring this forward.

“I am absolutely appalled by the blatant disregard shown by the groups of irresponsible campers who have descended upon Loch Earn.

“I know many ‘wild campers’ who actively ensure there is no visible sign of any camping activity upon leaving the area.

“This is not wild camping. This is groups of people heading out to enjoy the wonderful countryside we have to offer in Strathearn, totally disregarding the countryside code and leaving disruption and destruction in their wake.”

Cllr McCall believes some of the problems could have been foreseen and potentially mitigated.

She continued: “Coming out of lockdown has meant that people can meet up with each other but they have nowhere to go other than open spaces, parks and trips to the countryside.

“It was obvious that an increase in visitors would happen, especially with good weather, and it is beyond belief that Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park could not have brought back their staff and opened access to some of the facilities like toilets and car parks in a more timely fashion.

“The police and the council are doing all they can within the law and current guidelines.

“A joined-up approach is needed, and needed now, if we are going to stop this dirty attack on our rural landscape.

“The Scottish Government has to understand the ramifications of the relaxing of the lockdown and work with local authorities, the police and the national parks to fix this.

“The right to roam has been a longheld privilege over Scotland but privilege without responsibility leads to anarchy.”
