Fun for all in Crieff at Christmas

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

Plans are in place to spread a little seasonal sparkle in Crieff.

Community-spirited locals have joined forces in the hope of creating a festive trail throughout the Strath capital.

It is hoped the ‘Crieffmas Wanderland’ idea will capture the imagination and foster a feel-good atmosphere throughout the town during the upcoming school holidays.

Those wishing to get involved are simply asked to search for the ‘Crieffmas Wanderland’ group on Facebook and register either their house or their street.

The plan is then for everyone to create a festive-themed display in their window for others to enjoy while out and about, using the group’s online list as a guide as to where to explore.

The informal project is designed to tap into a similar sense of togetherness created when many were displaying rainbows in their windows in tribute to the sterling efforts of NHS staff and other key workers when the Covid-19 lockdown was at its most severe.

Free packs containing arts and crafts materials are available at the town’s Crieff Connexions shop while Santa’s Post Office is in place at the Old Town Hall.

Well- known local Graham Scougall – otherwise known by music moniker ‘Scoogz’ – is one of those involved.

He said: “It’s just a wee idea Elean

Grodzicki and I came up with to give people a chance to spread a little Christmas cheer, do something fun and encourage people to explore what the town has to offer during the school holidays.

“Lots of people have their lights up already but the packs are there to give people some ideas and there are videos and pictures in the online group, too.

“A lot of people seem to have gone to town with their lights this year and we thought this would be a good way to make the most of it and give people, especially children, something else to keep an eye out for when other things have maybe been cancelled or have finished – like the Sugar Mouse Hunt or the Kids’ Week in Crieff trail, for example.”

Anyone not on Facebook who would like to have their details added to the list can email crieffmaswanderland@outlook.com.

Organisers have said the submitted details will be deleted on January 11.
