Get back in condition as gyms open
Gym facilities at Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff will be among those to reopen on Monday next week.
The welcome news for fitness fans the length and breadth of the region is the result of the reduced Covid-19 restrictions which were outlined by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on Tuesday this week.
The sports facilities at Strathearn Community Campus are managed by region-wide charitable trust Live Active Leisure (LAL).
A LAL spokesperson said information on booking the likes of swimming lessons, gymnastics sessions and gym workouts are available on the charitable trust’s website.
Paul Cromwell, LAL’s CEO, said: “We are very pleased to be in a position to reopen the community campus offer as planned, government guidelines allowing.
“As was the case previously, it remains imperative we maintain a safe environment for our customers and staff returning to our venues.
“We’re opening to new operating arrangements and it’s our responsibility, and legal duty, to ensure that these work effectively in practice.”
Mr Cromwell continued: “This guidance, combined with the huge amount of work already done by our teams, will ensure that we have all the required standards in place to provide a safe environment.”
He added: “It’s certainly been a tough few months and, while the challenges are far from over, we look forward to being able see our customers soon.”
Ahead of being allowed back in the gym, the LAL spokesperson has offered the following advice:
• Warm- up thoroughly - This is always important, but even more so if you’ve been moving less in lockdown. We recommend people check out the following YouTube video: https://youtu. be/7fmJT8k6sfM
• Leave the ego at home - You might have been bench-pressing a PB before lockdown but take a few kgs off for your return. Build-up gradually and check your form. It’s much better to get your form back on track and means you’ll be smashing those PBs in no time!
• Ask for help - If it has been a while since you’ve used the equipment, or maybe you’re a complete beginner, just ask a member of staff for a demonstration or email fitness@liveactive.co.uk to get some tips on the best options for you.
• Cool down - As with the warm-up, this will help minimise injury and that post-workout burn. A video is available via https://youtu.be/PrWeGqv83RE
• Give yourself a pat on the back - Getting yourself back to the gym after lockdown – and off that big comfy, spongy sofa – is a pretty amazing achievement, well done you.
