Citizens’Advice volunteer appeal

-

Volunteers are being sought to support the work of the region-wide Perth Citizens’Advice Bureau.

The local branch has been a lifeline for many residents during the pandemic, with the service advising on a wide range of topics including the furlough scheme, redundancy rights, how to access the benefits system and the support locally available.

Perth CAB CEO Jane Adams said: “Volunteers are a big part of what makes Citizens’Advice so valued in our community.

“Since the start of the pandemic our team has provided advice and support to 6200 individuals and advised on over 20,000 issues.

“We wouldn’t have been able to do this without our amazing team of 30 local volunteers who give their time to support others.

“We’re looking for 10 new volunteers to join us as we expand our services and increase the number of people we want to reach across Perth and Kinross.

“No previous experience is needed as we give volunteers full training and as much staff support as is needed.

“As well as helping people, our volunteer advisers benefit from new skills, increased confidence and a fresh challenge.”

Volunteer adviser Claire Milne said: “I began my CAB training in November and it gave me the flexibility to take on something new and to be at home for family during the pandemic.

“The training programme is one of the best I’ve ever taken part in – clear, concise and interactive.

“The amount I’ve learnt to be able to assist our clients is amazing and I continue to learn on a daily basis, with full support and access to further training.

“I’d encourage anyone looking for a really worthwhile challenge to get in touch.”

Training is delivered remotely and volunteers will go on to have the choice as to where and how they volunteer, including the number of hours a week they can commit to.

Opportunities are available to advise by phone, email, webchat and in person when social distancing restrictions are fully lifted.

Residents interested in volunteering can send an email to volunterrecruitment@perthcab.org. uk.
