Cast eyes over castle restoration at fayre

- LYNN DUKE

Future brides and grooms will have a chance to see the progress of changes at the historic Culdees Castle when it hosts its first public event this weekend.

Work is coming on apace as owner Tracey Horton transforms the derelict building near Muthill into a wedding venue for the latest stage of her plans to restore Culdees to its former glory.

And a mini wedding fayre is being planned for Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week.

Tracey told the Herald: “The glass roof of the courtyard is finally done and I am very excited about that.

“We have put brand new glass in with G and J Glass from Perth, who have been great, and everything has been restored and repaired using the original slates and iron strut work which has gone back on.

“My partner Rob has been welding and making new struts for weeks and who knew he had skills as a slater as well!

“There’s nothing new in there apart from the glass. We have restored all the old doors. Our amazing joiner Steve from Clarke Carpentry has been fixing and

copying all the original windows.

“It’s going to be a great events space and this will fund the next stage of the renovation, which is to go into the original castle kitchen and then into the chapel above.”

And awards have already been flowing in for Tracey’s work at Culdees.

She continued: “The glamping has been really successful and we have been voted in the UK’s top ten sites and I’m featured in a wedding magazine as part of the top five newcomers.

“I want people to know that they can hire Culdees not just for weddings but for

parties too, but this weekend is all about the weddings. We are hosting our first mini wedding fayre.

“If anyone is interested they can book a slot to attend this weekend, in line with Covid restrictions, by phoning 07586 726108 or sending an email to contact@ culdeescastleestate.com.”
