WE’RE BACK ON THE BALL
Caleb leads goal spree as kids return
Talented young Strath footballers got their season off to a fine start.
Crieff Juniors FC’s 2009 side welcomed Auchterarder to the Strath capital for what was their first Perth and Kinross Youth Football Association tie of the new season.
The fixture was given added significance as it was the first time the lads had played an 11-a-side match after previously playing nine-a-side encounters in seasons gone by.
A spokesperson for the side explained: “There was little between the teams in a competitive first half, with fine goals from Aaron C, Struan and Caleb keeping things tight at half-time.
“A great team effort in the second half provided three more goals for Caleb, which took his tally to four despite picking up an injury. A brace by Theo added to the goals. All members of the team contributed to the goals, which were the result of defensive work and good midfield passing and assists across the whole 13-man squad on the day.”
The spokesperson continued: “Despite Caleb’s clinical goalscoring performance, he was edged in terms of the man- ofthe- match award by Kenzie, who produced an excellent performance at full-back, creating much of the attacking play down the left while tirelessly checking back to make critical tackles in defence when needed.”
The visiting lads from the Lang Toon were also thanked for their efforts and sporting behaviour on the day.
The Crieff Juniors representative went on: “Thanks again to Auchterarder who played good football and whose determined play kept the match competitive to the end. They are certainly one of the most improved teams in the league and we wish them the best of luck.”
Thanks were expressed to Irving Geddes, which has sponsored the side’s new strip.
Fellow sponsor Alastair Christie Landscapes & Designs was also thanked for its support.
