Match tribute to Jake

Minute’s silence for young Comrie man

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn recorded a 4-2 league win over Bridgeton Utd at Market Park on Saturday

The afternoon got under way with a well- respected minute’s silence for Comrie’s Jake Chiverton (20), who passed away the previous week.

The match itself was a lacklustre performance by a Crieff side who never really got out of second gear but still had more than enough to claim the three points.

The hosts dominated the early stages of the game and went ahead after 20 minutes when Brian Finlay played a ball over the top to Peter Reilly.

Reilly squared the ball for strike partner Kros Brown to tap in from close range.

Reilly got in on the act himself just five minutes later when he finished from six yards out after good work down the left by Finlay again.

Vale lost a really poor goal a few minutes later but quickly regained their two-goal advantage when Finlay picked the ball up on the corner of the box and sent a brilliant left-footed curler into the far corner.

The home side allowed the visitors back into it again with some more sloppy defending and went in at half-time with just a one-goal advantage despite dominating the first half.

The second half was a non-event in many respects until a moment of brilliance from Kai Brown settled the game.

Like Finlay earlier, Brown picked the ball up on the corner of the box and sent a right-footed strike across the keeper and into the top corner.

The stand- out performer for Vale was Finlay, who deservedly received the award for man of the match.

Vale are away to Luncarty on Saturday this week.

Training takes place from 6.50pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
