New base for police praised
Confirmation that a new base for police in Crieff is set to open later this month has been welcomed by a local politician.
Police Scotland has said it will gradually relocate officers from the existing station in King Street to 32 James Square this month.
As reported previously, the switch will see officers‘co-locate’with staff from Perth and Kinross Council.
Police Scotland has said there will be no change to the current delivery of service in the area as a result of the move, although the station in King Street will permanently close as part of a drive by the force to work together with partner organisations.
An exact opening date in September has not yet been revealed.
Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Liz Smith said the confirmation would reassure local residents and businesses.
Ms Smith said:“I was delighted to hear that a date has now been set for the opening of the new police office in Crieff.
“I congratulate Police Scotland and Perth and Kinross Council on finding a way to deliver public services from shared facilities and it really has to be an example of the direction of travel for delivery of public services across towns in rural areas.
“With the A85 running through Crieff and officers serving a huge rural hinterland from this office, it is important a police presence in the town is maintained.
“Having no police office would have presented very real concerns for residents and businesses and this confirmation of the opening will give some reassurance regarding service delivery and is very welcome news.”
