Ian’s marathon effort to help kids in Africa

-

A Strath runner is preparing to take on the London Marathon to help educate children in Africa.

Ian Buchan, from Crieff, will tackle the 26-mile route for a second time on October 3.

And, thanks to a chance conversation with Estelle Nicol from Auchterarder, the 68 year-old will run to raise money for a charity run by a friend of Estelle’s.

The Memusi Foundation was set up by Matt and Sally Norton after they spent their honeymoon in Kenya.

It aims to provide a quality education for all children and that, through this, every child has the opportunity to escape poverty in their own lifetime, providing a path of hope.

Through Memusi Outreach, the charity reaches over 8000 children across 42 primary schools and early childhood development (ECD) centres.

Outreach includes healthcare community investment, teacher development, ECD transition and resources.

Estelle has close contact with the Memusi Foundation and is planning a volunteering trip in February 2023.

She said:“I can’t thank Ian enough for deciding to support Memusi.

“The work it does is life-changing for the children that benefit.

“I have been following Memusi’s work for some time and I can’t wait to visit and see the schools for myself.

The sustainable nature of the model means that it takes children through the education system and then helps them transition into adult life helping them set up businesses and go into further education.”
