VALE’S HIGH FIVE

Crieff side dominate in convincing win over Breadalbane

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn secured another three points with a convincing 5-2 win over Breadalbane on Saturday.

The Crieff side made the trip to Highland Perthshire for the Division One tie and totally dominated for the first hour.

Early half-chances went begging for the Vale as Reilly, Cramb and Ward all went close before Ross Nixon saw a 30- yard screamer brilliantly saved by the home keeper.

The visitors kept the pressure on and took the lead on the 25th minute mark when Aaron Dawson and Euan Carter linked up and the latter was set free down the righthand side.

Carter beat a couple of players before finding Reilly in the box, who saw his shot saved by the keeper.

The ball then fell to Paddy Ward, who teed-up Darral Cramb to rifle home from close range.

Nixon and Dawson combined well soon afterwards to release Carter down the right.

And the Vale wideman got to the byline before crossing to marksman Reilly, who finished well from 10 yards.

With the score 2- 0 to Vale at the break, the visitors started the second half on the front foot once more.

Two more goals would soon follow, both from Dawson corners.

The first came from a Carter header and the second from Jack Simpson, who headed in at the back post.

Vale were cruising at this stage but somehow allowed the home side a glimmer of hope by conceding two goals in quick succession.

However, Vale would rally and put the game out of Breadalbane’s reach when Brian Finlay went on a mazy run down the left before finding Ward in the box, who finished well to cap a another fine, hard-working performance at what is traditionally a tricky venue.

Euan Carter was hailed as Vale’s best player on the day after notching-up a goal and two assists.

He was run close by Connor Stewart, who was solid and composed at the back.

Vale are at home against Kettins on Saturday in a 2pm kick-off.

Results from Saturday: Alyth 8, Letham Colts 0; Bridgeton 0, Letham CC 5; Burrelton v Kettins (postponed); Fair City 3, Ballinluig 0; Kinrossie 1, Auchterarder 3; Stanley 2, Balmoral 3.
