Fun for all and a top total for park revamp

- LYNN DUKE

Legion Park was once again full of fun and laughter as Comrie residents got together on Saturday to support the upgrade of the village’s central play area.

There was plenty for everyone with bouncy castles for all ages, live music, face painting, tattoo art, races and an extensive raffle and tombola.

Members of Crieff Round Table also brought along their ducking stool and, with food and drink on offer from local suppliers, families and friends enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon.

Friends of Legion Park are currently going through the process of fundraising for the expansion and upgrading of the park’s facilities and Saturday raised £3000.

Terri Bacon has been spearheading the campaign.

She told the Herald: “The event was a huge success, and we are so happy with how it turned out. We have had nothing but great and positive comments from people – one comment being that we did the community proud.

“We have raised roughly about £3000 and are just waiting for some more to come in from vendors. One woman from

Comrie gave us a cheque for £250 on the day.

“We are really thankful for the support. “A massive thank you also to everyone who helped set up, during the day and afterwards.”

Councillor Rhona Brock has been helping the Friends liaise with Perth and Kinross Council, which will be providing the new play equipment.

She said: “The Friends are a go-ahead group and have achieved a lot in a short time. It just seems to have taken off – all credit to Terri and her group.

“I noticed all the different age groups that came out to support the event, and it just shows you what can be done with joined up thinking of all the groups that come together and use that park.

“And it wasn’t just Comrie that showed their support. There was support there from Crieff and St Fillans as well. It was as if it was a ward get together with people helping each other.

“Going forward - the park is big enough to incorporate something for everybody.

“They are well on their way to achieving their goals - they’ve got their constitution, and they’ve got charitable status.

“In such a short time they have achieved so much. It’s fantastic.”
