Station closed as new hub switch complete
Officers based at Crieff’s Police Station relocated from King Street to new shared facilities in James Square on Thursday last week.
The former law enforcement hub is now permanently closed as part of what a spokesperson for Police Scotland described as the force’s“estates strategy to co-locate with partner organisations”.
Once fully decommissioned, the King Street will be put up for sale.
Chief Inspector Graham Binnie is the local area commander.
In a statement issued shortly before the move, he said:“Working more closely with local authority colleagues in shared facilities is part of Police Scotland’s long-term estates strategy.
“Being based in the same building as Perth and Kinross Council will facilitate greater partnership working and reduce the long-term costs of maintaining an old public sector building such as King Street, which is no longer fit for purpose.
“Building on the existing strong links we have developed over the years with Perth and Kinross Council will enhance our joint approach at protecting and serving the local community.
“There will be no change to the existing policing service provision within the town and our staff are looking forward to moving into the new office.”
Councillor Bob Brawn is convener of Perth and Kinross Council’s housing and communities committee.
The Conservative elected member said:“As a council, we are committed to working with partner organisations to improve the lives of our residents.
“This co-location will support closer working between our housing services and health and social care partnership staff and Police Scotland officers.
“This will create the opportunity for greater focus on prevention and early intervention and build on the relationships we have developed over the years.
“We are continuing to work with partners and other organisations in terms of sharing premises and will look at every available opportunity to do so.”
It had been stated the move was to have taken place earlier in the year but it was delayed as a result of complications in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic.
