Great turnout as groups support Crieff action plan

- LYNN DUKE

Crieff Community Trust shared local residents’ vision for their town when the Crieff Community Action Plan was formally launched.

The latest community action plan for the Strath capital was revealed at an event in Strathearn Arts on September 25, where the main themes were discussed as well as how the community can help bring them to fruition.

The document covers 2021-26 and is a renewal of the 2013-18 version, with work continuing towards achieving the original identified priorities and actions that are still relevant for the town, as well as embracing new areas to explore for the benefit of the area.

The preparation of the plan was organised by the Crieff Community Action Plan Steering Group, which included representatives from Crieff Community Trust, Crieff Community Council, Crieff Connexions, Crieff Community Garden, Logos Youth Project, Creative Crieff, Strathearn Arts, Crieff Succeeds, Remake Scotland, Crieff and Strathearn Museum, Live Active Leisure, local councillors and other representatives of Perth and Kinross Council.

Ailsa Campbell is chair of Crieff

Community Trust, which carried out the community engagement work that helped to inform the plan.

She described the wide ranging document as a “community to-do list”

Seven key themes are at the forefront following the consultation process.

These include community; facilities, activities and events; local economy; town appearance, environment and heritage; sport, health and wellbeing; access to services and transport, and traffic management and pedestrians.

Mrs Campbell explained: “The purpose of an action plan is for the community to come together and identify what the priorities are for the town that will make it a great place for people to live, give more support for groups and just make it a more enjoyable place.

“Everyone takes some responsibility for

different actions. Because the priorities have been voted on, it is democratic and fosters working together with everybody working in the same direction.”

Mrs Campbell added: “The launch was well-attended considering the times that we are in.

“Our secretary Jane White, who is

amazing, gave a great presentation to everyone giving the background to why we are doing this and going over the old action plan and what was achieved.

“She highlighted the fact that it is everybody’s action plan – not Crieff Community Trust’s project – and that if anyone wanted to get involved we had a

QR that people could sign up with.”

Mrs Campbell concluded: “Also in attendance were our MP John Nicolson, MSP Jim Fairlie and Perth and Kinross Councillor Stewart Donaldson.”
