VALE OUT AFTER A SPOT OF BOTHER

Penalty heartache sees club exit Scottish Cup

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn’s Scottish Amateur Cup dream ended following a 4- 3 defeat on penalties against Powrie on Saturday.

The match was decided by a shootout after the tie was level at 1-1 after 90 minutes.

It was hard to take for visiting side Vale, who more than matched their Dundee hosts in what was a very close contest played in poor weather conditions.

The first half was a fairly even affair, with few chances at either end.

Vale were given a chance to forge ahead when a penalty was awarded in the 15th minute after Kai Brown was chopped down in the box, but Aaron Dawson saw his effort from 12 yards well-saved by the Powrie keeper.

The home side got their noses in front when they were awarded a penalty of their own.

Powrie were 1-0 up at half-time but Vale put up a good fight in the second half.

The Market Park men retained possession well, playing some good football at times.

And they grabbed a deserved equaliser when brothers Kai and Kros Brown teamed-up to feed Paddy Ward, who held off his marker and finished with typical accuracy.

Vale huffed and puffed in search of a winner but it wasn’t to be as they were knocked out of the competition following the lottery of the penalty shoot-out.

After the match, Vale’s Garry Brock said: “I can’t fault the effort of the team and, on another day, we could’ve gone through.

“There were some really good performances throughout the team.

“Paddy Ward put in a great shift at the front but our man of the match was

Euan Carter, who seemed to cover every blade of grass.

“All the best to Powrie in the next round and we thank them for their hospitality after the game.”

Vale don’t have a match on Saturday but are due to face Jeanfield at home in the league on October 16.

Fellow local side Auchterarder Primrose had a free day at the weekend but host Alyth in the Lang Toon on Saturday.
