Association chair role for Crieff businessman

Ian’s region-wide role

- LYNN DUKE

Crieff ’s Ian Stewart is the new chair of the Perthshire Highland Games Association.

Last week saw a changing of the guard within PHGA as Ken McCallum stepped down from the post, with local businessman Ian taking his place.

Ian has a long history within Highland Games and brings a good level of experience to the role.

He is the immediate past chair of Crieff Highland Gathering, as well as being the track and field convener at the Market Park showpiece.

Ian said: “I’d like to thank Ken McCallum for his time spent as chairman of the PHGA.

“It has not been an easy role, particularly over the last two years with the absence of any Highland Games due to the Covid-19 virus.

“However, Ken has carried out his duties admirably.

“For me, the work now begins as I look towards what I hope will be a full Perthshire Highland Games Association calendar in the 2022 season.

“We have 13 fantastic member Games within the PHGA, all offering a tremendous day out for locals, families and the many thousands of visitors from both the UK and overseas.

“I now look forward to meeting with our member Games and discussing our future plans for a successful Perthshire Highland Games Association season.”

The PHGA assists with the organisation and promotion of Highland Games in Perthshire and the surrounding areas.

Its 13 member Games cover the length and breadth of the region and the season runs from May to September.

The PHGA organises leagues in the heavyweight events, Highland dancing and solo piping.

Anyone looking for information on the association, or to assist or sponsor it, should contact their local event or Ian via Ianstewartcrieff@gmail.com.
