VALE LET TWO-GOAL LEAD SLIP AS RED CARDS FLY

Crieff league leaders have to settle for a draw

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn secured a valuable point following a hard- fought league encounter with Letham CC on Saturday.

The hosts raced into a 2-0 lead at Market Park against the visitors from the Fair City.

The Crieff side’s first goal came from a Euan Carter header after he was brilliantly picked out by Ross Nixon.

Vale made it 2- 0 when Nixon found Kros Brown at the edge of the box, who set up Aaron Dawson to smash the ball home.

The first half ended on a sour note for Vale as the local lads lost a goal from a free-kick by Dan Wood which allowed Letham back into it before the break.

The Perth side levelled things up 10 minutes after the restart.

The goal came from another Wood free-kick which should have been dealt with comfortably.

Vale pushed to regain the lead before the end of the half and carved out some half-chances from open play.

They also had a clear shout for a penalty waved away by the referee after Lewis Young was chopped down in the penalty area.

Things got heated and out of hand at the end, with both teams seeing red cards.

Ultimately, it was a poor result for Vale who remain top of Division One.

Heavy rain led to the postponement of many fixtures elsewhere in the region.

Luncarty ASC netted a 3-2 win against Jeanfield Swifts in a top tier game that was switched to the North Inch.

Full amateur results from Saturday, October 30:

Division One - Burrelton P- P Bridgeton, Jeanfield Swifts 2 Luncarty ASC 3, Kettins P- P Breadalbane, Vale of Earn 2 Letham Community 2.

Division Two - Alyth 5 Kinrossie Caledonian 0, Ballinluig P- P Stanley, Fair City 8 Wolfhill 1.

Aucheterarder Primrose, currently fourth in Division Two, are due to face Letham Colts on Saturday in a 2pm kick-off.
