Town landmarks will turn orange in day of action
Soroptimists to raise awareness
The Strath is to once again show support for the international activism campaign working towards stopping the many forms of violence against women.
Raising awareness of the 16 Days of Action, which begins on Thursday this week, local landmarks such as Crieff ’s Old Town Hall and the White Church in Comrie will be lit up orange; many shops will have at least one orange item in their window displays, and residents are encouraged to look out for orange stones that are being scattered around Lady Mary’s Walk.

of optimism and hope.
And members of leading women’s organisation Soroptimist International are keen to promote the initiative with the hashtag ‘Orange the World’.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign aims to raise awareness about violence against women and girls and highlight that violence in any setting should not be tolerated.
Crieff Soroptimist Janice Wilson told the Herald: “Soroptimists are calling for a collective global effort beginning with the Day for the International Elimination of Violence Against Women on November 25.
“Everyone has a role to play in this so we are asking what’s yours?
“Soroptimists will be in James Square this Saturday wearing orange and raising awareness. If anyone would like to find out more about the campaign or Soroptimism do come up and chat to us.”
Soroptimists also rally against child marriages, human trafficking, modern day slavery, rape, sexual exploitation, female genital mutilation and sexual harassment in the workplace.
Janice added: “The 16 Days of Activism ends on December 10 - Human Rights Day, which is also Soroptimist International Day.
“We believe women are entitled to the full and equal enjoyment of all their human rights and to be free from all forms of discrimination.”
