Groups get share of £16k Co-op fund
Remake Scotland among those to benefit
Local good causes have benefitted to the tune of £ 16,120.74 thanks to customers of Crieff Co-op.
Remake Scotland, Friends of MacRosty Park and Crieff at Christmas were chosen by the community to benefit from the supermarket’s Membership Community Fund, which accumulates when shoppers use their Co-op membership card.
Remake received a cheque for £5,269.76; Friends of MacRosty Park pocketed £5,628.09 and Crieff at Christmas collected £5,222.89.
Crieff Co-op manager Gary Pugh, told the Herald: “On behalf of all of the team and myself, I can’t thank the local community enough for their valued custom and support and especially for their continued support to their local community causes. By using the Co- op membership when shopping, this enables these worthy organisations to benefit from the community funding.”
Remake’s general manager Amulree Welch said: “Remake Scotland is incredibly grateful to the Co-op and Co-op members for their generous donation of £5269.76. This will enable Remake to serve our community in new and innovative ways and to continue running our tool library. During the year that the tool library has been open we have issued 359 free equipment loans to our community and have over 130 members. Mo Thomson, Isabel Simpson and David Hutchison of Friends of MacRosty Park were on hand for the cheque presentation.
Isabel said: “We were overwhelmed with the amount that had been raised through the Coop membership local community funding. The donation will be spent on maintaining and cleaning the grounds within MacRosty Park and also for new plants for the flower beds.
“MacRosty Park has been neglected for a long period of time, especially last year due to the pandemic as the council had to put a hold on any work that would usually be carried out. Therefore, this has left some areas needing a little bit of TLC. The local community fund pay out will go a long way to bring MacRosty Park back to its former glory.
“Thank you to Crieff Co-op, its management and staff, and to the customers for this amazing donation and also a huge thank you for choosing us as a local cause.
“Considering the Co-op is a small store and has competitors in town now, over £16,000 is an amazing amount for its customers to raise and be put to good use locally.”
