Festive fundraiser to help keep village sparkling
A festive fundraiser in aid of Comrie’s Christmas lights display was a huge success last Saturday afternoon.
Locals enjoyed a performance from Comrie Pipe Band in Melville Square before heading in to a Christmas Fayre in the White Church, which included a variety of stalls and games.
Children were also delighted to meet Santa and Mrs Claus in their enchanting grotto.
Patricia Robertson, of Comrie Christmas Lights committee, stressed that the Christmas Fayre is an important fundraiser to keep the colourful seasonal displays going in the village.
She told the Herald: “The fayre went tremendously well. We raised around £1000. The children loved it and so did the parents. We had a lot of compliments about the grotto with some getting very emotional and saying it was one of the best grottos they had seen.
“Alison Henry won the Boozy Hamper sponsored by Irvine Geddes, and Leanne Simpson won the £50 food hamper gifted by the Co-op. Archie Howlett and Emily McBean won the children’s hampers.
“It was an event to bring the community together and to give the children the experience with Santa. All the children also got a little present.
“The money will go towards keeping the lights sparkling in the village.
“It wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of all the volunteers on the day. A big thank you to them and also to all the lovely stall holders for helping to make it a big success.
“Thanks also to June McCartney and the carol singers who performed outside at the end, to Jaclyn at the White Church, Hansens for the mulled wine, the local businesses who provided raffle prizes, and to everyone who made donations.
“Thank you also to Comrie Primary School pupils for making the snow flakes that we used to decorate the hall.
“That’s our lights now on. Donations can still be made at Cafe Comrie where Comrie Christmas cards are currently on sale in aid of the lights.”
