Funding page set up for families this Christmas
Crieff Connexions and Crieff Foodbank have joined forces this year to help families in crisis at Christmas.
A funding page has been set up to raise £1500 to help provide food boxes for Christmas Day containing everything needed to create a festive feast.
A spokesperson for the organisers explained: “At Christmas, we want these families to have a lovely Christmas meal.
“The usual collections for the food bank can’t accept perishables, so we are going to buy Christmas lunch boxes just before December 25 with all the fresh ingredients needed to make the meal - turkey/ chicken, vegetables, trimmings, Christmas cake, etc.
“In 2019 we provided Christmas meals to 18 families - 68 people altogether, including 33 children. Last year, during lockdown, we helped 12 familes.
“This will be the fourth year we have run this initiative. From the feedback from previous years we know that local generosity made all the difference to those familes on Christmas Day.
“Rather depressingly, as the use of the foodbank is continuing to rise, we expect a greater demand this year.”
All donations will go directly to paying for the Christmas boxes. Anything raised over what is needed will go to the food bank and Crieff Connexions.
Volunteers will be asking families who use the services of Crieff Connexions and the food bank if they would like one of the meal boxes. Families must be referred to the food bank.
And on Christmas Eve morning the fresh food will be collected from participating shops and contributors, and the meal parcels will be made up by volunteers for distribution directly to the families that afternoon.
Mince pies, chocolates and selection boxes for every child will also be included in the parcels along with a handwritten Christmas card expressing goodwill and best wishes from the community.
