VALE MADE TO WORK FOR WIN

Scoreline doesn’t tell full story as rivals make it difficult

- SPORTS REPORTER

Vale of Earn secured another hard-earned three points on Saturday with a 5-1 win over Breadalbane.

The visitors from Highland Perthshire are a well-organised outfit and honours were even in the first 15 minutes as the two sides cancelled each other out.

However, Vale remained a threat and took the lead when Paddy Ward headed home a good delivery by Euan Carter.

The hosts made it 2- 0 when a moment of brilliance by Kros Brown saw him earn the half a yard of space needed to rifle an excellent strike into the top corner.

A vital third goal arrived for Vale shortly before the break when the all- action Carter fired a sweet strike into the far corner after a bit of a scramble in the box.

Wary of a fired-up Breadalbane going into the second half, Ward added to Vale’s lead by looping a header over the keeper after controlling a delivery by Kros Brown.

Breadalbane got back into it with a goal from a set piece which gave them a glimmer of hope but Vale finally put the game to bed when Jack Howie finished off from close range after the ball had rebounded off the post.

Afterwards, Vale’s Garry Brock said: “It was a good win against a side who made it very difficult for us.

“Our back four of Nixon, Brock, Stewart and Simpson were excellent and held firm at key times

“Man of the match goes to Connor Stewart, who had a very good game at the heart of the defence.”

Vale followed up the win with a 5-2 friendly win over Scone Thistle on Monday night.

Ward and Kros Brown both scored twice, while Aaron Dawson was also on the scoresheet.
