Ceilidh fun at school

-

Families and friends of pupils at Morrison’s Academy in Crieff gathered recently for a fun-filled ceilidh.

Around 120 youngsters in the school’s primary one to four classes attended the gathering, which has been a firm favourite on the events calendar since it began in 2001.

Held in the school’s Academy Hall in Strathearn Terrace, it was the first family ceilidh to take place since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The evening – held on Friday, February 24 – kicked off with a warm welcome from Morven Bulloch, head of the primary school, followed by traditional piping music from pupil Calum-James.

After guests were seated The Selkirk Grace was said and families tucked into a delicious meal of‘Crofters Pie’and ‘Bairns’Puddin’’.

A collection of songs was performed by pupils across primaries one to four and recitals were given by class winners of the primary school poetry competition.

Morrison’s rector Andrew McGarva took to the stage with fellow musician Professor Weir to provide some toe-tapping tunes during the ceilidh.

A raffle was also held at the event to raise funds for new toys.

Gillian Lauchlan, a primary three teacher at Morrison’s Academy, said: “The P1-4 family ceilidh is always such a wonderful evening.

“It is heart-warming to see the children enjoying dancing with their friends and family, knowing all the steps by heart.

“The ceilidh was established in 2001 and has been a firm favourite in our school calendar ever since.

“Over the years I’ve spoken to many former pupils who have fond memories of learning all the dances in my class.

“As they dance at special occasions, they claim that they can still hear my voice in their head giving out instructions!”
