Event is sure to be a blast
Countdown to fireworks displays
A community bonfire and fireworks display is to take place in Comrie on Friday this week.
Blast in the Park will run from 6.45pm in Laggan Park.
The display itself is being overseen by award-winning Blast Designs, with the wider event organised by members of Comrie Primary School Parents and Friends Association (PFA).
The evening is to include the traditional bonfire and fireworks, as well as other entertainment, sparklers, food and drink, glitter tattoos and toasting marshmallows.
The bonfire is to be lit following a lantern procession, which is to leave the village’s Melville Square at around 6.30pm led by talented members of Comrie Pipe Band.
A spokesperson for Comrie Primary School PFA said: “We would like to extend a warm welcome to residents and visitors from the Strathearn area and beyond.
“John Kettles, of Blast Designs, is very generously donating his time, expertise and equipment for the event.
“Assistance will be provided by parent volunteers from the school and the Parents and Friends Association of Comrie Primary School and Nursery.
“The event is our main fundraising event of the year, and raises vital funds for supplies for the school and nursery.
“Last year the money we raised allowed us to pay for books, educational trips, funding for after-school clubs, learning resources and PE equipment.”
The group’s spokesperson continued : “The kids will be carrying lanterns made from recycled materials.
“The lanterns are made in conjunction with parent helpers as a special creative activity at the school.
“Comrie Pipe Band will also be playing in the park in the lead up to the display, and we are especially grateful for them agreeing to be part of the event.
“Before the October holidays we invited pupils from schools in the local area to design posters for the event.
“Winners from each age category at each school are being awarded book tokens, then local artist Liz Kemp will choose two overall winners.
“The winners will be given the opportunity to press the button to turn on the fireworks display, and to ignite the bonfire.
“Many businesses, organisations and individuals have provided help and donations and will be volunteering on the night.”
Entry to Laggan Park on the night is by donation and organisers have said that the evening is cash-only.
