Park is on track for upgrade

- KATHRYN ANDERSON

The Lang Toon is a step closer towards getting a pump track as part of a project to make Auchterarder Public Park a “destination”attraction.

Earlier this year a new play park was opened in the Western Road recreational facility, which is said to have created a“real buzz”.

And now funding has been agreed for the second phase of the park’s redevelopment.

Perth and Kinross Council’s environment, infrastructure and economic development committee has approved £50,000 - in principle - towards the installation of a pump track in the park.

It was unanimously agreed by the committee on Wednesday, November 1.

The first phase of the park’s redevelopment, which is now complete, was partly supported by an award of £100,000 from the Auchterarder Community Facilities Fund on August 18, 2021.

The fund receives its income solely from developer contributions based on the sales of new houses.

The second phase will create a 115-metre long cycle pump track with a 40-metre split line and skills area.

The estimated construction cost is £195,414 and will be subject to a tendering process.

It has been awarded £50,000 from Sportscotland in partnership with Scottish Cycling, £50,000 from The Gannochy Trust, £12,500 from Friends of St Margaret’s, £12,500 from Auchterarder and District Community Trust and £4500 in sponsorship.

The PKC committee unanimously agreed to grant £50k in principle, from the Auchterarder Community Facilities Fund.

Strathallan SNP councillor Steven Carr, who sits on the committee, said:“This summer we saw the opening of the new play park in Auchterarder which created a real buzz around the town both for the younger and older generations enjoying a reinvigorated park.

“A pump track will provide an additional play offering in the park, with a custombuilt project aimed at providing something special for the teenagers in the town.

“It’s worth adding that developer contributions continue to be an important component in helping to develop facilities for communities – and, in this case, the Auchterarder community – assisting communities to develop and grow. I fully support it.”
