Big attraction in village really was a blast
The Strath sky sparkled over the weekend as residents celebrated Bonfire Night in fine style with a variety of events.
In Comrie on Friday evening, Laggan Park took centre stage for the popular Blast in the Park.
The bonfire and fireworks display is organised by the volunteers behind the Parents and Friends Association of Comrie Primary School and Nursery – known as Comrie PFA – with the pyrotechnics overseen by the award- winning Blast Designs.
The night got under way with pupils from Comrie Primary School carrying lanterns made from recycled materials from Melville Square to the park, led by members of Comrie Pipe Band.
Maisie Ross, a P7 pupil at Comrie Primary School, was given the honour of pressing the button to set off the fireworks after being named as the winner in the P5-7 category of a poster designing competition, judged by local artist Liz Kemp, held in the run-up to the event.
Euan Bellas, a P4 pupil at Killin Primary School, won the P1-4 category and was invited to press the button to ignite the fire.
A spokesperson for Comrie PFA said: “We would like to say a special thank you to the private individuals and anonymous donors, as well as the many local businesses and groups, for their generous sponsorship for Comrie Blast in the Park.
“We’d also like to thank the many people in the community who donated their time and equipment for the event.
“It was lovely to see so many people there, and a big thank you for all the donations towards the school.
“Finally, we want to say a huge thank you to John Kettles of Blast Designs and his team. Without him the event really wouldn’t be possible.
“It’s the biggest fundraiser for Comrie Primary School annually and a fantastic community event for the village and beyond and we are very grateful for his unwavering and generous support.”
