John’s work getting young people into sport recognised

- A big- hearted volunteer has received an award in recognitio­n of his selfless efforts at Crieff Golf Club.

John Roseweir, of JR Auto Services, was honoured with a Scottish Motor Trade Associatio­n Community Activity Recognitio­n ( CAR) Star Award for his incredible dedication.

The accolade recognises five business owners for their “outstandin­g efforts in combining business success with community projects and support for local charities, organisati­ons, or groups”.

The recipient individual­s are regarded as “significan­tly impacting people’s lives, going above and beyond without expecting anything in return”.

The ceremony was at the Hilton in Glasgow, with John attending the glittering dinner alongside wife Sarah (inset).

John is the director responsibl­e for junior golfers and their membership on the Crieff Golf Club board.

Membership in that section has increased substantia­lly in recently years – with around 100 young people joining within the last two years alone – and a number of successes have been enjoyed, on both a local and national level.

In addition, projects such as the junior golf f swap shop have been set up in order to help the next generation of f talented golfers fulfil their r potential.

Reflecting on the e evening John, who paid tribute to the ethos at Crieff Golf Club and all those who assist with the various projects, said: “It was an unforgetta­ble night.

“Sarah and I attended the annual dinner and awards and had an abs absolute blast.

“It I was an emotional eve evening, but I somehow ma managed to keep my com composure.

“One of the best mo moments was watching vid videos sent in by former em employee George an and the Crieff Golf Clu Club Juniors. Thank yo you to everyone who pa participat­ed!”

J John was also recognised for his work with JR Auto Services during the Covid-19 pandemic restrictio­ns and his support for his frontline workers, as well as his backing for other community projects – such as the Santa’s sleigh tour organised by members of Crieff Round Table.

He said:“Since winning, I have been asked why I volunteer for my community.

“My answer is that I support the community because they have supported me. I wouldn’t be where I am without them.”

He added: “Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me!

“Winning this award has given me even more drive to continue my work with Crieff Golf Club Juniors and within the community – making a difference is what counts.”
