Taking it out of the box, it’s clear that this little Asus is a stunner. And while the one I’m testing looks fantastic in silver, there’s also a fetching bronze alternative. Some distinctive design choices set it apart from the likes of the Macbook, with a brushed concentric circle design on the lid. It looks ace and glints in the light – it instantly looks like a more expensive machine.

The all-aluminium shell weighs in at 1.45kg and is 19mm thick – not quite as skinny as a Macbook Air, and 100kg heavier. That’s not much, but every gramme counts when you’re trying to shed as much weight as possible for on-the-go working. After a whole day of typing, I’m relieved to say that the keyboard hasn’t given me any finger cramps. That’s not to say it’s perfect – it’s on the wrong side
