Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Razer Raiju

What’s the story?

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller is the best gamepad ever made. There, we said it. If you’re sick of using standard controllers where the buttons stick, triggers squeak or thumbsticks wear out, then the Elite is for you.

It’s built for three things: performance, durability and customisation. It feels great for gaming, it’ll last years without the components wearing out, and it can be tweaked to the nth degree to give you the edge over the competition. It also comes with a carry case, a 9ft USB cable and a variety of optional pads, sticks and buttons for particularly ‘pro’ gamers.

Is it any good?

The Elite Controller exudes quality from top to bottom. Every stick, button and trigger is incredibly responsive, and if you don’t like them, you can swap them out. The package includes convex and concave sticks, circular and square D-pads and optional paddles that sit down by your fingers – it’s quicker to press these than it is to squeeze the triggers, and that could be life or death in Call of Duty.

If you are wedded to the triggers, you can also set the hair trigger lock to a halfway point. You can even download presets for games including Battlefield 1, Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3.

This controller is already cheaper than the PS4’S Razer Raiju pad, and if you shop around enough you might even pick one up with a free game like GOW4 bundled in. Not too shabby, eh?

If you’re a serious gamer or just want to have the best, treat yourself to the Elite

What’s the story?

Now that the arrival of the PS4 Pro has given Playstation gamers a taste of upgrade fever, it may be time to take one step further. Of the new pads that Sony has licensed, the Razer Raiju is the one you want. Brought to you by the purveyor of all things black and Led-illuminated for PC, the Raiju is a serious upgrade over the standard Dualshock 4. And it’s got a seriously high price to match.

Will paying a small fortune for one of these really catapult you to the top of the online leaderboards? Not quite, but it’s packing a feature list that’s guaranteed to make the Raiju the weapon of choice for PS4 obsessives.

Is it any good?

Unless you’re regularly in podium position when you play online, the Raiju might not be enough of a leap from the standard PS4 controller to justify spending £150 on one. After all, that’s the same amount of cash as three full games.

And it’s not the perfect controller either. The D-pad is made up of four separate buttons, rather than one single pad, which makes it tricky for fighting games. Still, the Raiju is filled with neat little touches, such as the replaceable thumbstick covers that’ll stop your sticks getting worn from constant use, and volume controls that won’t force you away from your game and into a menu.

If a Dualshock 4 just isn’t cutting it any more, this could give you the edge you’ve been waiting for – but don’t expect it to turn you into a gaming god overnight.
