You may have noticed that 4K has been one of the biggest buzzwords in tech lately. Virgin has certainly noticed, and so has made it the headline feature of its new TV box.

Unfortunately, this headline is just as hyperbolic as one you’d find in a red-top tabloid. It’s not a false claim – the TV V6 does run 4K on Netflix and Youtube, but that’s all for now, which is a disappointment when those apps are already available on most UHD TVS. Virgin has promised it’s working on providing more 4K content, but it’s way behind Sky – which already offers sport, films and box-sets in Ultra HD.

Sky’s your limit? We could end the debate now and say that Sky Q is the better option, but there’s a possibility that the reason you currently own a Virgin Tivo box is to take a stand against the Murdoch empire. If so, then upgrading to the Virgin TV V6 actually makes sense. It’s much faster than its predecessor, can record up to six shows at once, and will support HDR and Dolby Atmos when the required software becomes available. And while it isn’t quite up there with Sky Q, you’ll be able to keep on slagging off Rupert without being accused of hypocrisy.
