FUJIFILM GFX 50S

-

If you want to take photos that wouldn’t look out of place in the centrefold of a glossy magazine (no, not that kind of magazine) there’s really only one choice: medium format.

Thanks to its mirrorless makeup, Fujifilm has managed to make the GFX 50S the same size as a DSLR, but with a sensor that’s almost twice as large as one you’d find in a full-frame camera. The 51.4MP CMOS sensor offers just about the finest image quality money can buy. It shoots in 14-bit RAW, which is perfect for capturing wide dynamic range, and the amount of detail you can capture with every squeeze of the shutter button is just ridiculous. An amazing 117 AF points is unheard of on this type of camera, while the tilting touchscreen offers gesture controls for quick reviews of shots.

At £5999 this camera isn’t exactly cheap, and if the closest thing you’ve ever taken to a portrait is a selfie the GFX 50S isn’t for you. But this could be the camera that pushes medium format into the mainstream.
