Try your hand at cre­at­ing a lux­ury looka­like for a frac­tion of the cost

his month we’re lov­ing the beau­ti­ful Kite wool kilim rug from West Elm and have been in­spired to make our own by paint­ing a chevron mo­tif onto a plain rug.

Colour­match cot­ton rug in flint grey, £14.99, Ar­gos Mask­ing tape Tape mea­sure 8 x Dy­lon white fab­ric paint, £3 each, Hob­by­craft Paint­brush Use a strip of mask­ing tape at each short end of the rug to paint on a straight line as a border. Di­vide the rug into four equal ver­ti­cal sec­tions by mask­ing out three lines. Paint on these lines with two coats of fab­ric paint. Leave to dry be­tween coats and peel off the tape straight af­ter paint­ing.

Once these lines have dried, mask out your chevron pat­tern so there are even gaps be­tween them. Paint on the lines then leave the rug to dry for at least 24 hours be­fore use.
