Try your hand at creating a luxury lookalike for a fraction of the cost

his month we’re loving the beautiful Kite wool kilim rug from West Elm and have been inspired to make our own by painting a chevron motif onto a plain rug.

TTAKES 3HRS* COST £38.99

Colourmatch cotton rug in flint grey, £14.99, Argos Masking tape Tape measure 8 x Dylon white fabric paint, £3 each, Hobbycraft Paintbrush Use a strip of masking tape at each short end of the rug to paint on a straight line as a border. Divide the rug into four equal vertical sections by masking out three lines. Paint on these lines with two coats of fabric paint. Leave to dry between coats and peel off the tape straight after painting.

Once these lines have dried, mask out your chevron pattern so there are even gaps between them. Paint on the lines then leave the rug to dry for at least 24 hours before use.
