Take a display unit from drab to fab with a playful lining

Wooden display cabinet Arles chalk paint, £18.95 per ltr, Annie Sloan

Clear wax, £9.95 per 500ml, Annie Sloan PVA glue & paintbrush Folk Birds wrapping paper, £6.95 for 5 sheets, Dotcomgiftshop.com

1 Lift the shelves out of the cabinet and wipe the unit down to remove any dust. Coat the whole unit and the shelves with Arles chalk paint, apart from the back panel which stays unpainted. Don’t worry if you get any paint on the glass; this can be removed with a scraper later on. Leave to dry before applying a second coat. 2 Apply a layer of protective wax to the paint and leave to dry. Brush PVA glue over the inside back panel of the unit and stick the wrapping paper in place, taking care to smooth out any air bubbles. Allow the glue to dry completely before placing the shelves back into the cabinet.
