Put a cre­ative twist on a fes­tive tra­di­tion with this sim­ple project that costs only £5 to make! the tubes from rolls of gift wrap are ideal – so start col­lect­ing now!

1Mea­sure and cut the tubes into 24 pieces that are 12cm long. Draw around the end of one tube on the brown paper and cut out. re­peat 23 more times, then sten­cil num­bers 1-24 on each with the pen. Ap­ply glue around the rim of one end of each tube and stick the cir­cles in place. use strong glue to stick the tubes in groups of four, mix­ing up the num­bers. Al­low to dry then stack up the lay­ers and glue in place.

2Flat­ten the card­board box and cut a piece to cover the back of the tubes. Fill each with a gift, then glue the back­ing in place. Cut a 35 x 13cm piece of card for the roof and fold in half. Cut a tri­an­gu­lar piece of card to fit to the front of the roof; glue in place. Cover the top with felt. Stick the roof to the top of the tubes and make a chim­ney from a card­board tube. Stick in place and add tis­sue paper as smoke from the chim­ney.
