Put a creative twist on a festive tradition with this simple project that costs only £5 to make! the tubes from rolls of gift wrap are ideal – so start collecting now!

1Measure and cut the tubes into 24 pieces that are 12cm long. Draw around the end of one tube on the brown paper and cut out. repeat 23 more times, then stencil numbers 1-24 on each with the pen. Apply glue around the rim of one end of each tube and stick the circles in place. use strong glue to stick the tubes in groups of four, mixing up the numbers. Allow to dry then stack up the layers and glue in place.

2Flatten the cardboard box and cut a piece to cover the back of the tubes. Fill each with a gift, then glue the backing in place. Cut a 35 x 13cm piece of card for the roof and fold in half. Cut a triangular piece of card to fit to the front of the roof; glue in place. Cover the top with felt. Stick the roof to the top of the tubes and make a chimney from a cardboard tube. Stick in place and add tissue paper as smoke from the chimney.
