Make it! Woven rag seat pad

-

1 Take a piece of cardboard the same size as your chair seat, then cut a 5cm slit every 1.5cm along both sides.

2 Tear fabric into 5cm wide strips, around 10cm longer than the width of the cardboard. Bunch five strips together and slot the ends into the first slit, the stretch across to the slit on the other side. Repeat until you’ve filled all the slits.

3 Take a single ‘weaving’ strip and tie it to a strip in the first bunch, then weave through the bunches as if it were a loom. At the end of the row, loop the weaving strip over the last bunch and then reverse the weaving.

4 When you run out of weaving strip, tie on another piece to extend it and continue weaving. Finish by securing to the last bunch, and trim the loose edges.
