PILE ON THE PLUSH

Add interest to a neutral scheme with different textures and finishes, from upholstered furniture in soft velvet or faux suede, to deep pile carpets and rugs and sumptuous soft furnishings in damasks or rich silks. Give each room a focal point, whether it’s a sofa dressed up with decadent cushions and throws or a statement bed with a luxe buttoned headboard, layered with glam satin bedspreads and faux furs.

MAKE A STATEMENT

Metallic wallpapers are a great way to brighten up a gloomy space or make a small room feel bigger, as the reflective surface throws light back into the room. The look can be quite intense, so use it sparingly in smaller rooms – for example, on a single feature wall or inside alcoves. Make sure they are well lit, with beams of light from lamps or a wash of overhead illumination.

Create a luxe look with glamorous glass furniture and sleek mirrored pieces. Glass and mirror reflect the light and help to create the illusion of space as there are no hard lines, plus the more floor space on show, the bigger a room will appear. They’re easy to decorate with, too, as they will reflect and reproduce any colour scheme.
